Methodology

The course is designed in a way that generates group interaction and simultaneously facilitates experiential learning for each student. Rather than relying on standard teaching methods such as lectures, videos, power-point presentations, our methodology mostly uses singly or in combination, interactive and playful techniques such as:

  1. Biographical Learning
  2. Role-play and Feedback
  3. Lecture-Demonstrations
  4. Drawing, Sketching, Colouring
  5. Movement, Body Posturing, Dramatisations
  6. Brainstorming, Whole Group Discussions,
  7. Small Group Tasks, Dyadic Exercises
  8. Meditation, Guided Visualisation
  9. Case Studies and Journal Clubs
  10. Seminars and Book Reviews
  11. Outdoor Meets

Structure

The course has been designed and structured to

  • Facilitate personalised learning at an individualised pace while being an integral part of a close-knit, supportive group

  • Allow participants to assimilate learning between classes

  • Encourage participants to deepen attitudes and skills by ‘trying out’ their new learning in real-life situations, sharing their experiences within the group and receiving feedback

  • Be flexible for employed professionals to attend with minor adjustments to their work schedules

  • Include fundamentals of various ‘wisdom’ disciplines, yet be comprehensive from a mainstream perspective for both beginners and veterans of counselling

The 12th batch of The Spirit-Ed Counsellor runs for 6 months, starting November 1st 2008. The course breaks for Christmas and New Year for 2 weeks, and closes by the end of April 2009. Sessions will be held twice a week, generally on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Each session lasts 3 hours.
